Requirements

Must be a citizen of the United States of America.

The maximum age of the applicant is 50 years of age at the time of appointment.

Must have earned a high school diploma or a GED.

Never been convicted, plead guilty (nolo contendere), nor have been on court-ordered community service/probation or deferred adjudication for a Class A misdemeanor or felony.

Have not been convicted, plead guilty (nolo contendere), been on community service/probation, or deferred adjudication for a Class B misdemeanor in this state, another state, or while serving in the military, during the last ten (10) years.

Never had a military court martial that resulted in a dishonorable or bad conduct discharge.

If an applicant is a certified peace officer, they must show proof of certification via a copy of their service record at the time of the written exam. Out-of-state certified officers must have their TCOLE license by their hire date. https://www.tcole.texas.gov/content/out-state-peace-officers
